At 23, for her University Degree in Modern Languages, she did her first interview in Hollywood to the movie director Tony Richardson, hoping to become a screenwriter or a film critic.
But destiny changed her life. Mariangela Rossi, Ligurian and Tuscan origins, living in Milan for more than two decades, left that idea, and a professional experience in advertising in JWT, in order to become a writer and cover about hotels, lifestyle and well-being topics: travel, has always long been central to her life, from the first trips to US and UK in her teens until the exploring of long distance destinations, as China and Russia, at the beginning of the 90’s, and the extensive globe-trotting as a regular and longtime contributor for ELLE ITALY. What she still likes more is to feature and share special places and interviews with entrepreneurs, creative thinkers and changers.
After a longtime research, in 2004 she has been a pioneer in publishing “Il Libro del Profumo”, followed by other books about wellbeing, eco-sustainability with style, travel and, again, olfactive culture. As an expert, Mariangela also launched a candle and home perfume collection, “Ready to smell?”, offering a tribute to Italian art masterpieces through the sense of smell, and came up with her Scented tours for luxury hotels: private itineraries in which, thanks to her carnet d’adresses, she helps to discover the most secret and fragrant side of a destination.
Married, mum of a teenage girl, she loves the timeless beauty of Italy, but also New York City, which she has long called home, and Asia, and is fond of well-being, hospitality, contemporary art, gardens, interior design, meditation, craftmentship, sustainability, conservation, olfactive world and all its synesthesia with other sensorial languages.
She contributes extensively and regularly for an array of national magazines, as IO DONNA (weekly of Corriere della Sera), AMICA, HOW TO SPEND IT (monthly of Il Sole 24 Ore), MARIE CLAIRE MAISON, and her passions always lead her into several stories and hyper-informative plunge into special places to share on columns, social media and panels.
Travel is a state of mind and she is always with eyes open and looking for new discoveries, but, after a life spent always on the move, the post-Covid has slowed the pace of the world. Leisure travel, and what readers are curious of, is now more and more conscious, thoughtful and focused in authentic destinations, conservation and ethical projects, tradition, personal experiences, green life, bespoke and unique experiences, creativity with a sense, giving back to cultures and communities. Travel can no longer be an act of consumption. It needs to be an act of empathy.
